No, henna is placed on the skin, not imbedded in it with a needle like a tattoo. You will feel a cooling sensation upon application. Henna is 100% natural and any reactions to it, are very rare. Since most henna artists put essential oils into their henna paste, it is recommended that you ask the artist what kind of oils they put into it, in case you happen to be allergic to any of the oils. Also if you are pregnant or nursing, please make sure the essential oil in the paste is safe for you. In pregnant or nursing women, lavender is usually used and is safest. It is always recommended that you ask your midwife or doctor first to verify.
Since we deal with children and specialize in prenatal belly art, we always use lavender essential oil as it is safest.
That varies depending on many factors such as your skin type, rate of exfoliation, the henna paste quality, how long you leave the paste on, how often you wash the decorated area and generally how well you have taken care of it. The design should last at least an average of two to three weeks.
Pure 100% natural henna powder or paste only dyes in orange/red/brown shades. Any other colours have other substances added, (some of which are very dangerous like PPD, found in black henna). If you have any reactions to henna please contact your physician immediately.
Yes, henna is very safe on hair. If you are looking to dye your hair then using henna is the most natural and safe way to do just that. Henna conditions your hair, softens it, and gives it a great color. The color your hair will get depends on your hair tone. For the most part you will get burgundy highlights to reddish tones. More and more people are using henna in their hair to escape all those nasty chemicals in commercial dyes.
Also using other natural hair products such as ghassoul (rhassoul), amla powder, indigo, and cassia obovata are very safe.
I also highly recommend that you thoroughly read through the article: Hair Coloring with Herbs, Plants & Other Natural Ingredients as it is very informative and helpful.
A good place is right here at Henna Sooq. We carry premium henna powder that is 100% natural, fresh, and finely sifted. We do not recommend that you buy from your local Indian or Middle Eastern markets as you do not know how long the henna powder has been on the shelf. Cones with pre-made henna paste are also not a good purchase as you also do not know how long it has been on the shelf and it most likely has unnatural ingredients to make it last longer. Being out on the shelf for too long dimishes the quality of henna, and therefore when using these henna products your stains won't usually be very dark or lasting.
Henna powder should be kept in the freezer to ensure freshness and to preserve its dyeing properties.
Fresh henna paste loses its dyeing strength, if kept out, at room temperature. We recommend any freshly made henna paste be kept in the freezer to ensure good dyeing properties.
Essential oils are affected by light (sunlight) and temperature, and it is recommended that all essential oils be kept in tightly closed amber glass bottles, and in your refrigerator.
Our glue sealant should be kept in the fridge or freezer so that it does not go bad. There are perishable ingredients in it.

All of your other henna supplies can be stored in a small case, or any other convenient place.
