Organic Indigo Powder for Hair is a natural plant. The powdered leaves have a natural dark blue dye. Indigo is used along with henna to dye darker hair tones.

What color tones will you get?

  • reddish brown when using proportions of 75% henna and 25% indigo. This method is called a one step process.
  • brown tones when using proportions of 50% indigo and 50% henna. This method is called a one step process.
  • dark chocolate brown tones when using proportions of 75% indigo and 25% henna. This method is called a one step process.
  • Black Tones when you use henna first at 100%, and then second step of indigo at 100%. This method is called a two step process.
  • Apply indigo with your henna application to get browner tones. This method is called a one step process.

Instructions and recipes can be downloaded via the Instruction tab, Henna TV YouTube Channel and via our Henna 101 page.

Important please note: our organic indigo differs from our indigo that is non-organic. They are from two different farms, and the results vary. This difference is similar to the difference in color results between henna powders. Our non-organic indigo (Indigo for Hair) is better for those who have resistant hair and greys (that are hard to color), and for those wanting rich dark tones, including black.

This henna powder comes inside an inner foil resealable pouch. This is the best packaging possible to maintain freshness.

Dye release for organic indigo is 30 minutes. Please mix with warm to hot water only. A bit of salt added to the indigo will help it adhere better to your hair strands, if needed.

Using indigo for brown to black tones

  • Perfect Neutral Darkest Brown

Posted by Rachel on 27th Oct 2021

This is now my solution for perfectly neutral darkest brown hair with no grays and no brassiness. My hair is waist long, fine and not color treated. My hair is naturally medium/dark brown but with UV rays it becomes very red toned.

I follow the single step process of combining henna + amla and indigo + salt. I combine about 30% henna and 70% indigo. Use water to mix. Wait 4 hours. Rinse with conditioner. Shampoo after 24 hours. And it's perfect.

Begins almost black but over a few weeks becomes darkest brown to dark brown, while remaining neutral. I was very surprised that the results lasted as long as they did. 4 weeks of darkest brown then another 2 weeks of dark brown. It's been 10 weeks since my last treatment and I still see a neutralizing effect.

I've used other henna in the past and they simply do not compare. This is somewhat more involved with custom ratios and add-ins but for both price and quality, this is it. I will use Henna Sooq forever.

Thank you for creating such a great product and providing knowledge for the community.

  • Jet set black hair!

Love this indigo! Since I switched from chemical dyes and started using henna and indigo (2 step method), I don't experience hair loss, and I get full coverage for my stubborn gray's! I use the peppermint cowash and the moisturizing shampoo bar which I really love and won't use anything else! No going back now!

  • Indigo

I combined with henna and LONG brewed coffee. My hair is partially gray in front. Did not cover gray at all.

HS Reply: We're sorry to hear. It sounds like the henna did not work either. Coffee isn't a recommended liquid with our products. For best results, instructions on the back of packages using warm to hot distilled water must be followed. We hope you might give it another try.

  • Darkened my hair quite nicely!

Posted by Carla on 24th May 2021

This was my first time using indigo and did a two-part application. Mixed one part henna and 3 parts indigo to initially darken the roots and entire hair. The indigo mixed up nice and smooth. I wanted to darken the grays and basically keep the dark brown color of my natural hair. I touched up my roots after four weeks and all was a pleasant success!
